Joseph Beuys: jacket and interior: Abbeville Press
Existing films of a previous book were the only art available so the book’s size was predetermined. Beuys’s materials and processes were translated into abstracts that affected the overall book’s design: Felt and fat, edgy chopped metal sheets, and chalkboard sketches, all transformed into bolded, indented quotes, hand-drawn textures, and chopped shapes. A founding member of the Greens party, it was also important to specify recycled paper throughout the book. White was printed under the yellow and red colors to help brighten them up. The recycledness added to the overall warmth. > back to jackets and interiors
